Every year since 1999 we have watched the Christmas Parade marched down the main streets of Santa Fe. Every year I am amazed that so many people are there to see it, must be the whole town lined the streets, watching the trucks, floats and marching band going by.
I wondered would this year be different and yes it would be, but not for the reasons I thought.
Hurricane Harvey destroyed so much of our local communities, and I wondered would the Christmas Parade be the same.
As I stood in the parking lot listening to the voices and excitement filling the air I couldn't help and wondered how many of these people had lost everything they own, or how much damage did Harvey cause.
You couldn't tell that three months ago a hurricane had brought in a historic flood by the smiles shining in the light.
This year was the same as always but not the same, my granddaughter Taylor was marching in this band. I couldn't help remembering all the years previous where she would be so excited to watch the parade go by and then dream of being in it one day.
I wondered while she stood there waiting for the parade begin, was she thinking of that, did she even remember that childhood dream?
Horns blaring, kids screaming with excitement, lights shining, and the music begins.... memories of years past fill my mind as I watch the march begin.
Today I am grateful to be standing here on the corner of the main street, watching my granddaughter's dream come true.
