Today I decided to leave the safety of my home and brave the devastation left from Hurricane Harvey. I needed to go to Kroger's and stock up on a few items. I wanted to cook supper and pretend that my life was as normal as it used to be.
As I arrived at the main street, I looked in my side mirror to see if I could pull safely into traffic.
That is when I noticed them. A convoy of the army or national guard trucks as far as I could see.
I pulled over to the side of the road, to observe this amazing site that I have never in my life before witnessed.
I decided to roll down my window and wave at each and every truck that drove by me.
Every single truck honked and waved back. I decided to film it on my phone to share the experience with others.
Each truck had young men inside them in their full attire and looking ready to take the task head on.
I was so humbled at this beautiful sight before me and so filled with appreciation for their service.
I became so emotional I began to cry.
These men are sons, brothers, fathers, husbands, nephews, grandsons and human beings that have dedicated their lives to serving others in their time of need.
Our military men and women are the reason I can leave the safety of my home and go to Kroger's.
This was one of the most beautiful things I have ever been blessed enough to witness and experience first hand.
When I got to Kroger's I reached into my purse and got the name tag of Cole who I have carried with me everywhere since Desert Storm and the Gulf War... hoping that wherever he is, he is safe and sound.
Thank you for everything.
Today I am grateful for all of those who have served, are serving and will one day serve.
