Today, a month after Harvey, I met with the insurance adjuster to go over the damage to my daughter's home. He was such a nice man and you could see the toll that being here for a month was taking on him. I told him I hoped people were being kind to him and he smiled and said why yes they are! He said out of all the states he works in, he loves Texas people. That comforted me because I have never understood the need people have to be nasty or mean especially to people who had nothing to do with the circumstances they are struggling with. He said he was going home this weekend for a week and then would be going to Florida. We talked about the hell that Florida was going through and he said that the damage was statewide and they estimated it would be between two to three years for the adjusters to write up all the claims. My heart broke because my life has been on hold for only a month I couldn't imagine years.
As he was investigating the damage at my daughter's home, I took in the decor of her home.
You see she has lost a home due to fire and to Hurricane Ike, then severe damage due to fire again.
We have finally just finished this year redoing this home through and through this past February and was able to bring her and her children back to the "new" home.
Due to Harvey the floors were ruined and a lot of sheetrock with have to be replaced and hopefully, soon their household will be back to normal but other than that we are good.
I love the way she has decorated her home and had brought her some cute little signs to hang up on her wall.
I loved the way she decorated especially seeing my style of parenting mixed in there. Her home is what we call Country Rustic down here, but you could see she had been paying attention to the small life lessons I had been trying to teach all her life and still.
Our lives have not been easy by any means, but we are so grateful for the blessings and life we have had. We handle each problem as it comes and deal with it and move on. We make life's little moments into big moments because you just never know when that will be your last moment.
I hadn't seen her house since she had "created" her walls, she was waiting for the perfect moment.
I guess a Hurricane disaster inspection was just about as perfect as it gets. The comfort and peaceful setting with all the messages around the house were so comforting for me. I have tried so hard to bring her comfort and peace during our times of hell on earth and to see her doing the same for her children was very comforting for me. Made me feel that when my time on earth is over, my life lessons will be hanging on walls for generations, doubtful but that is house seeing her home made me feel.
Today I am grateful that no matter what life brings our way that we are still grateful for the most important part of life, love of family.
