A Bird Sings A Song Of Tears

This morning I went outside to sit on my porch, looking at the beautiful lakefront property I now own thanks to Hurricane Harvey.

I needed some kind of normalcy after the long frightening night we all had... wondering... if my family were all safe. Did our homes survive? Would we all make it out of this situation alive?

While drinking my coffee on the porch I heard a panicked chirping and looked around to see where it was coming from. It was a small sparrow flying around frantically... chirping long and loud... you could hear the panic and fear in the chirping...no doubt looking for its nest... I began to cry, because at this very moment... people all over Texas are frantically doing the same thing, they are trying to reach loved ones to find out if they are alive or not... myself included.

This has to be the longest day in history...
Finally...
I was able to reach all of my loved ones... everyone is accounted for.... It doesn't get better than that!
What greater blessing in life is there?

Lots of damage and loss.... more to come I am sure...

I am struggling not to get lost in the devastation and pain of what all of us are going through.

I have been watching water rescues all day... Strangers helping strangers...

Forgetting about who voted for who.
Forgetting about differences of religion.
Forgetting about the different color of our skin...

Just remembering we are all human beings... People helping people... what a beautiful thing to witness. It has always been one of the most beautiful things to watch in our world... compassion, empathy, and kindness toward each other.

The forecast says we will be doing this until Thursday... Once again 24 hours of fear...
Will my family continue to be safe.... will we lose more?

Today I am grateful that my family is here, nothing else matters.

  1. I so wish i could be with you right now, Cookie. So sincerely sorry for the damage and destruction, but, as always, there are so many blessings as well, as you have pointed out. Fresh beginnings. xoxo
