This evening Hunter came over and I gave him the beautiful walking stick/cane Jack made for him. (and one for me too!)
He spent a good hour “looking” at it. We talked about the
bamboo shape and the twist and turns, and I explained to him about it’s like
what AS does to our spine.
He sat in deep thought and said you know Nanny this is the
nicest thing anyone has ever made for me, and the most beautiful thing I have
ever “seen.”
Tears filled my eyes, knowing he would never honestly “see”
the beauty of this remarkable gift made for him, but I was wrong.
He said Nanny you always say I am your hero and I always say
you are mine. I said yes, he said with this cane our souls are intertwined. He
said the cane represents me and my blindness, and the design represents you and
your AS, we are one.
I realized he may be blind, but he sees more than I will
ever see.
Today I am grateful for a soft-hearted young man who sees everything.
